Parliamentary Panel On Commerce Visits Pahalgam

Srinagar- A delegation of the Parliamentary Committee on Commerce, led by Chairperson Dola Sen, met with tourism stakeholders in Pahalgam on Tuesday to discuss the challenges facing the sector following the terror attack in April this year.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Sen said the committee has been visiting various parts of Jammu and Kashmir to assess the ground situation firsthand.

“We are in Pahalgam today after meeting stakeholders in Srinagar yesterday, and tomorrow we will be in Leh to continue our discussions. Our main goal is to understand the concerns of all stakeholders and prepare a detailed report for submission to the relevant ministries and authorities of both the Union and local governments,” she said.

Acknowledging the tragic loss of lives in the recent incident, Sen called it an unfortunate event that has deeply saddened the nation.“While we share in the grief of the victims' families, we are committed to ensuring that such incidents do not permanently derail tourism and commerce in Jammu and Kashmir,” she added.

Sen emphasized that the committee aims to act as a catalyst for the revival of commerce and tourism in the region.“We have a duty to stand with the people of Kashmir. That is why we are on the ground-to see the situation for ourselves. Based on our observations, a time-bound policy will be developed to restore tourist confidence and revive the economy as soon as possible,” she said.
