EU Mulls Suspending Trade Concessions, Imposing Sanctions To Pressure Israeli Occupation

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Sept 16 (KUNA) -- EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas announced Tuesday that the European Commission will present tomorrow a package of measures including suspending trade concessions with the Israeli occupation government and imposing sanctions on "extremist ministers and violent settlers" to pressure Israel to change course over the war in Gaza.
Kallas said in a post on X that these steps "would clearly signal that the EU demands an end to this war."
She added that Israel's ground offensive on Gaza "will make an already desperate situation even worse," explaining, "it will mean more death, more destruction and more displacement."
These moves come as several European countries, including Belgium, Ireland, Spain and the Netherlands, have stepped up pressure within the bloc to push for sanctions on Israel and for tougher EU action, including targeting violent settlers and halting any economic privileges linked to existing trade agreements between the EU and the Israeli government.
