The sports hall at Al Nasr Club was buzzing with joy on Tuesday morning as children of determination lined up for the 5th People of Determination Fitness Championship. Parents had bright smiles, sense of pride and they cheered their children participating in one of the UAE's most inclusive and heartwarming community events.

Before the first whistle even blew, many parents were waving, calling out their children's names, and recording videos. Some got emotional as they watched their sons and daughters stretch, warm up, and get ready for the competitions.

More than 100 students from government centres and associations took part in the championship, which included a variety of activities such as running obstacles, jumping challenges, leg-strength drills, and core workouts like sit-ups and upper-body lifts. Coaches had trained the students for weeks, helping them prepare both physically and mentally.

Ahmed Salah, one of the coaches, said the children exceeded all expectations.“We practiced these exercises very often, and today, they remembered every instruction,” he said.“Their balance, focus, and determination were perfect. The best part was their happiness; they enjoyed every moment.”

Each competition brought cheering and applause from audiences across the hall. Children of different abilities ran, jumped, balanced, and stretched, giving their best in every activity. Some moved carefully, some moved fast and every child enjoyed the moment.

Seven-year-old Fatima, who completed the obstacle course with confidence, said she loved the jumping challenges the most.“When I run and jump, I feel very strong,” she said.“My mother is here today, and she clapped so loudly for me.”

Another participant, Saeed, said he had been counting the days until the event.“I practiced every day because I wanted to finish first,” he said.“When everyone clapped for me, I felt like a champion.”

For 14-year-old Rania, the highlight was not just the competition.“I made new friends today,” she said.“We all cheered for each other. I want to come again next year.”

The championship also highlighted the UAE's ongoing commitment to creating more opportunities for people of determination across sports, education, and community activities.

Talking to Khaleej Times, Hessa Tahlak, assistant undersecretary for the development sector at the Ministry of Family, said events like this reflect the nation's clear vision of inclusion and empowerment.

“This championship shows how far we have come in building an inclusive society where every individual is supported to thrive,” she said.“Sports strengthen confidence, physical health, and emotional wellbeing, and they help participants discover their talents. Our aim is to create pathways that allow people of determination to compete not just locally, but on national and international stages.”

She added that the ministry's programmes are shaped by continuous research, global best practices, and constant engagement with families and experts.“Families are our closest partners. Their insights guide us in designing programmes that truly make a difference in their children's lives.”

As the event wrapped up, children left with medals around their necks, parents left with full hearts, and coaches left with pride.
