Poland's President Karol Nawrocki has approved the deployment of NATO forces on Polish territory as part of Operation Eastern Sentinel, authorising foreign allied units to bolster national defences.

The approval came through a decree issued by the National Security Bureau, granting permission for allied troops from other NATO member states to be stationed in Poland. The decree is classified, and precise details-such as numbers, locations, or which units will be involved-have not been made public.

This decision follows a drone incursion onto Polish airspace on 10 September. Nineteen drone violations were reported by Polish authorities, with at least four of the intruding drones shot down. Much of the debris was later recovered within Poland.

Under pressure from NATO allies, Poland invoked Article 4 of the alliance's treaty, citing threats to its security. Operation Eastern Sentinel was launched to prevent further airspace violations, improve regional readiness, and reinforce defence infrastructure on the eastern flank.

Allied nations have pledged to contribute military assets under the operation. France, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and Germany are among those set to deploy forces to Poland under the Eastern Sentinel framework. Ground-based defence systems, aircraft and enhanced air policing capabilities are expected to be part of the build-up.

President Nawrocki characterised the drone operations as deliberate provocations - attempts to test Poland's defensive measures and that of NATO as a whole. while War as well as political leadership in Poland have framed the deployment authorisation as necessary to deter future violations and to assure both domestic and allied confidence.
