Suspect in Charlie Kirk Murder Arrested
(MENAFN) Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed on Friday that Tyler Robinson, a native of Utah, is the individual believed to have carried out the deadly shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. Robinson was apprehended after an extensive manhunt lasting over 24 hours.
At a press conference, Cox stated: "We got him." He emphasized the significance of the attack, calling it not only the tragic death of Kirk but also an assault on broader American values. "This is certainly about the tragic death, political assassination of Charlie Kirk. But it is also much bigger than an attack on an individual. It is an attack on all of us. It is an attack on the American experiment. It is an attack on our ideals. This cuts to the very foundation of who we are," Cox remarked.
Authorities were tipped off after a family member of Robinson—whose identity remains undisclosed—reached out to a family acquaintance, who subsequently notified the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The family member indicated that Robinson had either admitted or strongly suggested his involvement in the shooting.
Governor Cox further disclosed that law enforcement currently believes Robinson acted alone in the incident. The family member reportedly noted that Robinson had grown increasingly political in recent years. During a family dinner before September 10, Robinson allegedly expressed disdain for Kirk, particularly in relation to the commentator's upcoming appearance at Utah Valley University (UVU), where the shooting occurred. The family member claimed Robinson criticized Kirk for promoting hate, with the conversation focusing on Kirk's viewpoints.
As part of the investigation, security footage from UVU showed Robinson on campus earlier on the day of the shooting. The footage depicted him wearing a maroon t-shirt, light shorts, a black cap, and light-colored shoes—clothing matching the attire he wore when taken into custody.
