UN Chief Sees Israeli Attack On Qatar Is Flagrant Violation Of Int'l Laws

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) DOHA, Sept 11 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres affirmed on Thursday his solidarity with Qatar and great concern over the Israeli occupation attack on Doha, considering the act as a blatant violation of international laws and norms.
The aforementioned remarks came during a telephone call received by Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani from Guterres, the Qatari Amiri Diwan said in a statement, adding that the UN chief noted the attack is a "dangerous threat" to the security of Qatar and the region's countries.
Guterres emphasized that all must work to necessarily reach a permanent ceasefire, instead of devastating the paths leading to it.
Meanwhile, Undersecretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo said the assault in Qatar "shocked the world."
She added the attack may "open a new and perilous chapter" in the devastating conflict, thus threatening regional peace and stability.
During their immediate meeting on Thursday, the UN Security Council members stressed their robust support to Qatar's sovereignty and territorial integrity, under the UN Charter.
They condemned the Israeli occupation attack on Qatar, and showed solidarity with Doha. They also expressed serious concern toward casualties. (end)
