VIENNA, Sept 10 (KUNA) -- Advisor at Kuwait Embassy to Austria Bashar Al-Duwaisan emphasized on Wednesday appreciation of GCC states to the efforts by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi, lauding his report on implementing the guarantees of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) in Syria.
In a speech he delivered on behalf of the GCC states before the IAEA Board of Governors, Al-Duwaisan extolled Grossi's visit to Syria last June and his meetings with Syrian President and government members, seeing the result as "positive outcomes" on boosting cooperation between the two sides.
GCC States' group welcomed Syria's start of a new phase in cooperation with the agency, Al-Duwaisan noted.
He affirmed the group's support to the efforts exerted to settle all pending issues relating to the Deir ez-Zor's site, in accordance with Syria's commitments, under the Statue of the IAEA and the NPT.
GCC states encourage Syria to proceed with reaching a joint action plan with the IAEA in this regard, he said, referring that the group sees this as a 'key step' to enhance transparency and build confidence.
The group renewed its call to the international community to stand side by side with Syria to achieve security, stability, and enhance the state's sovereignty and institutions over its land. (end)
