Sisi Urges Return to Talks on Iranian Nuclear File
(MENAFN) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi told his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday that all stakeholders in the Iranian nuclear dossier must resume negotiations and participate in serious and constructive discussions.
According to a written announcement from the Egyptian Presidency, Sisi and Pezeshkian held a telephone conversation.
The statement highlighted that Sisi underlined the necessity "to de-escalate and contain tensions in light of escalation in the region, which calls for intensified joint action to enhance stability and confront attempts to undermine peace and security.”
He further emphasized the value of constructive dialogue to achieve a peaceful resolution that secures regional safety and prevents further escalation.
In response, the Iranian president expressed gratitude to Sisi for his role and sponsorship in bridging Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), lauding Egypt’s significant contribution in laying the groundwork for meaningful dialogue.
Pezeshkian pointed out that these efforts culminated in the accord signed in Cairo on Tuesday, which restores collaboration between Iran and the IAEA after months of Egyptian mediation.
On Saturday, Iran’s permanent envoy to the United Nations confirmed that Tehran had reopened talks with the UN nuclear body.
Iran had halted cooperation with the IAEA in early July, following US and Israeli strikes against the country in June, accusing the nuclear watchdog of prejudice toward Tehran.
