CAIRO, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday called for urgent intervention by the international community to tackle the catastrophic conditions in Gaza and stop the continuing aggression.
The foreign ministry said Abdelatty made the call during a phone call he received from the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, adding that he informed the Italian official about Cairo's relentless efforts to enforce a cease-fire and dispatch relief supplies to Gaza.
He warned of the dire consequences resulting from the Israeli occupation's expansion of military operations, renewing the rejection of Tel Aviv's schemes to evict the Palestinians from their territories.
Moreover, he underscored necessity to establish an independent Palestinian state to the June 4 (1967) border lines, according to the relevant UN resolutions.
Minister Abdelatty, also during the telephone conversation, touched on the Iranian nuclear file noting Cairo's efforts to resume negotiations between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to resolve the issue through diplomatic means.
Furthermore, the ministry statement mentioned that Abdelatty discussed the regional issues with the German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul by telephone. He reiterated utter rejection of the aggression on Gaza causing famine among the locals and schemes to expand settlements in the West Bank. (end)
