Jordan Reviews Final Draft Of National Biodiversity Strategy

Amman, Sept 8 (Petra) – The Ministry of Environment on Monday held a consultative meeting, chaired by HRH Princess Basma bint Ali, head of the National Biodiversity Committee (NBC), to discuss the final draft of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan.
The meeting reviewed the strategy's main objectives, which focus on conserving natural resources, protecting ecosystems, and ensuring the sustainable use of biodiversity in line with national sustainable development goals.
Officials stressed the importance of coordination between government bodies, private institutions and ministries to ensure effective implementation and achievement of the strategy's targets.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Local Administration Walid Masri, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan, Minister of Agriculture Saeb Khraisat, Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman, the secretary-general of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation representing the minister, and Environment Secretary-General Omar Arabiyat.
Participants said the adoption of the strategy represents a milestone in strengthening Jordan's regional and international standing on biodiversity and environmental issues, helping meet international obligations while balancing economic development with environmental protection.
The final draft of the strategy and action plan will be submitted to the Cabinet for official approval in the coming period, paving the way for national programs and projects to expand protected areas, regulate natural resource use, and raise public awareness about biodiversity and environmental conservation.
