Hamas Receives US Ceasefire Proposal
(MENAFN) The Palestinian group Hamas announced on Sunday that it had received a fresh ceasefire proposal from the United States through intermediaries and expressed its openness to continuing discussions.
In a statement on Telegram, the group confirmed, “We received some ideas from the American side through mediators to reach a ceasefire agreement.”
Hamas showed support for any initiatives aimed at “efforts to stop the aggression on our people,” signaling a readiness to engage in further negotiations.
The group emphasized its willingness to “immediately sit at the negotiating table to discuss the release of all prisoners in exchange for a clear declaration of ending the war and a complete withdrawal (of Israeli forces) from the Gaza Strip.”
Additionally, Hamas has expressed agreement with the creation of an independent Palestinian committee to handle the administrative functions of Gaza.
It also insisted that Israel must adhere to the terms of any agreement reached, stressing the importance of avoiding a repeat of past experiences in which deals were made but subsequently ignored or overturned.
According to the group, “to prevent a repetition of past experiences where agreements were reached but then rejected or overturned,” Israel’s commitment is crucial.
Hamas further highlighted that on August 18, it had agreed to a proposal presented by mediators Egypt and Qatar, based on a suggestion from US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
However, the group pointed out that the “(Israeli) occupation has not responded so far but continued its massacres and ethnic cleansing campaign.”
Concluding, Hamas reiterated its ongoing dialogue with mediators, stating that it remains “in constant contact with mediators to develop these ideas into a comprehensive agreement that meets the demands of our people.”
