Petra, Sept. 6 (Petra)-- The International Petra Desert Marathon's 15th edition, organized by Jordan Experience Tours and Albatros Adventure Tourism in cooperation with the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), closed on Saturday with the participation of hundreds of runners from across the world.
The event kicked off from the Petra Archaeological Reserve, with runners passing through unique trails winding between the historical landmarks of the Rose City and the surrounding natural mountains in the Beidha area. The exceptional sporting atmosphere made the event one of the world's most prominent adventure marathons.
This year's edition saw wide international participation, including runners from Europe, Latin America, and East Asia, along with Arab participants from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, Qatar, and Oman. The number of participants exceeded 300, reinforcing Petra's position as a global sporting and tourism destination.
The marathon's success reflects Jordan's position on the international tourism map and highlights Petra as a leading destination for sports and adventure enthusiasts, said PDTRA Chairman, Fares Breizat, noting the outstanding organization and the efforts of partners and supporters.
The marathon, he pointed out, largely contributes to boosting economic activity in Petra where hotel facilities, restaurants, commercial outlets are filled, thereby helping to achieve sustainable development for the region. He said the event aligns with the priorities of the Economic Modernization Vision 2023–2033 in promoting Jordan's tourism product.
As for results, Jordanian Salameh Al-Aqraa captured first place in the full marathon (42 km) and Ukrainian Tima came second. In the half marathon (25 km), Jordanian Yousef Jumaa secured top spot, followed by compatriots Abdulaziz Shuaibi, second, Mohammad Bakr, third, and Fouad Abu Safi, fourth.
