$1.82 B Debt And Big Cuts: Oi Reinvents Itself As Tech Provider In Q2 2025


(MENAFN- The Rio Times) Oi's own financial release shows a net loss of R$ 835 million (≈ $152 million) in the second quarter of 2025. The company recorded R$ 714 million (≈ $130 million) in revenue, down 66.7% year on year.

Oi cites its ongoing judicial recovery, which began in 2016, as the framework for its current results. Under its“Nova Oi” model, the operator completed its first full quarter focusing on business clients.

It reports a 67% rise in subsidiary revenues from IT and communication services. Cloud solutions grew 11%, and unified communications rose 22%. These services now form the core of Oi's B2B portfolio.

Legacy copper networks contribute to low‐margin services. Since 2024, Oi has decommissioned old networks and migrated customers to digital platforms. The company saved around R$ 1.4 billion (≈ $255 million) in operating costs through this shift.



Despite the losses, Oi reduced operating expenses by 64.6% and capital expenditures by 70.1%. Its net debt climbed to R$ 10 billion (≈ $1.82 billion), and cash on hand fell to R$ 1.1 billion (≈ $200 million).

Creditors capitalized interest due in June, stabilizing gross debt at R$ 11.2 billion (≈ $2.04 billion). Brazil's telecom sector features three dominant groups.

Oi 's transformation seeks to preserve competition and support business digitalization. The operator highlights that its cost cuts and service pivot will improve margins and free cash flow.

Investors watch closely as Oi works to emerge from its restructuring. The company believes its narrower focus on technology and communication services will drive sustainable growth.

Customers and regulators alike will assess whether Oi's“Nova Oi” can deliver on its promise of a leaner, digitally driven operator.
