Italy Ready To Support Ceasefire With Monitoring And Training Initiatives Outside Ukraine

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) This was reported by the Italian government's press servic following the Coalition of the Willing meeting in Paris, according to Ukrinform.

Meloni participated in today's summit of coalition leaders online.

During her remarks, she reiterated her proposal for a collective security mechanism modeled on NATO's Article 5 as a key component of the political aspect of security guarantees for Ukraine.

“Reaffirming that Italy is not willing to send soldiers to Ukraine, President (of the Council of Ministers) Meloni confirmed the openness to supporting a possible ceasefire with monitoring and training initiatives outside of Ukraine's borders,” the statement said.

The Italian Prime Minister also took part in a follow-up phone conference with U.S. President Donald Trump, during which the outcomes of this morning's meeting were shared, and the sense of unity was reaffirmed in reiterating the common goal of a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.

“This can only be achieved with an approach that combines ongoing support for Ukraine, the pursuit of a cessation of hostilities, maintaining collective pressure on Russia, including through the tool of sanctions, and solid and credible security guarantees, to be defined in a spirit of cooperation between the two sides of the Atlantic,” the statement emphasized.
