Cairo, Sept. 4 (Petra)-- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi, participated in the 164th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States today at the ministerial level. Jordan then gave the United Arab Emirates, the presidency of the regular session.
In addition, Safadi presided over the Arab Ministerial Committee conference, which was charged with taking international action against unlawful Israeli policies and actions in occupied Jerusalem.
On the sidelines f the 164th regular session of the Council of the Arab League, Safadi also attended the ministerial-level meeting of the Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of Decisions and Commitments of the Arab League.
"We meet today in an ordinary session, amidst regional circumstances in which nothing is ordinary," Safadi said when he spoke at the 164th ordinary session's opening session. "Israeli aggression is becoming a greater threat to regional stability and the Arab system as a whole. In its catastrophic wars against Gaza, the West Bank, and the future of Syria and Lebanon, the Israeli dictatorship has shown unrestrained violence.
"The Israeli government publicly states that it wants to alter the region's map," Safadi continued. Humanitarian principles do not stop it, and it violates international law. It has stated its intention to impose its rule on the West Bank, demolished Gaza, and is plundering Palestinian territory in the occupied West Bank. After decades of oppression and misery, it is occupying more Syrian land and taking advantage of the country's transitional period to sabotage its national fabric, violate its sovereignty, and sow discord that threatens its security, stability, and unity. It refuses to carry out even its obligations under earlier agreements and still occupying Lebanese territory.
Safadi underlined the significance of adopting an Arab approach in order to counter Israel's regional expansionist intentions. "The Israeli government says it wants to alter the region's map," he stated. In order to bring about an era of Israeli dominance over our Arab world, it seeks to alter it. This threat necessitates a reassessment of all our instruments of collective action.
"We cannot face this challenge alone," Safadi added. To safeguard our future and interests, as well as the region's right to live in just and enduring peace, we must cooperate in accordance with a comprehensive strategy that utilizes all available tools, including political, economic, legal, and defensive ones. The Arab Peace Initiative and international legitimacy decisions must be followed in order to satisfy the Palestinian people's right to freedom and an independent, sovereign state on their own territory.
Reiterating that "halting the barbaric aggression on Gaza and ending the famine created by Israel in the Strip, under the watchful eyes of the entire world, is our priority," Safadi also reaffirmed support for American, Qatari, and Egyptian efforts to achieve a sustainable truce.
"We stand firmly on our red line: rejecting the displacement of Palestinians from their homeland," Safadi said, underscoring his opposition to the expulsion of Palestinians from their land. We will do everything in our power to combat it, and we warn against it as a crime."
Safadi also reaffirmed Jordan's determination to use every resource at its disposal to oppose any attempts to alter the legal and historical standing of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, which are under the traditional Hashemite custodianship of His Majesty King Abdullah II. He reaffirmed his criticism of the unlawful Israeli actions in the occupied West Bank, which are intended to thwart the creation of an independent Palestinian state based on the two-state solution with occupied Jerusalem as its capital on the lines of June 4, 1967. Additionally, he denounced the claims made by racist fanatics in the Israeli administration that they want to establish sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian area.
Safadi emphasized the significance of the two-state solution conference held last July by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in collaboration with the French Republic, as well as the necessity of maintaining support for the Palestinian National Authority.
He underlined that the two nations' summit, which will be held this month on the fringes of the UN General Assembly, will be historic and that the Palestinian state will be recognized there.
Supporting Syria's attempts to rebuild on principles that ensure its security, stability, sovereignty, and the safety of all its residents while upholding their rights is crucial, Safadi emphasized. Along with the Lebanese state's efforts to activate the role of its institutions, he also emphasized the importance of supporting Lebanon's security, sovereignty, and stability.
As part of joint Arab coordination, Safadi had lengthy discussions with Badr Abdel Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, on the fringes of the Arab League Council meeting at the ministerial level.
They underlined the necessity of permitting adequate and long-term humanitarian aid into Gaza as well as the necessity of stopping Israeli assault in Gaza and its risky escalation in the West Bank. The two ministers also talked about ways to improve the two fraternal nations' bilateral ties in a number of areas.
During their bilateral discussions, Safadi and Asa'ad al-Shaibani, the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, talked about measures to improve ties between the two friendly nations.
Additionally, Safadi met with Mohamed Salem Marzouk, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, to talk about regional developments and the two fraternal nations' bilateral relations.
