Wasiq Stresses Joint Competitions Between Afghan, Turkmen Athletes

KABUL (Pajhwok): The head of the National Olympic, Physical Education and Sports Committee, in a meeting with the Turkmenistan Ambassador in Kabul, has emphasized strengthening sports cooperation between the two countries and called for proving opportunities for participation of Afghan and Turkmen athletes in joints competitions.

In a statement, the National Olympic Committee wrote the committee head Maulvi Ahmadullah Wasiq along with a delegation met with Turkmenistan ambassador in Kabul Khwaja Awadov at the National Olympic Committee.

At the meeting, Awadov expressed his condolences and sympathy for loss of lives of Afghan citizens in recent earthquake in the eastern provinces and emphasized the continuation of Turkmenistan's assistance and cooperation in this regard, the report added.

Awazov explained that“sport knows no borders” and expressed hope that sports relations between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan would expand further.

Wasiq, while appreciating the sympathy of Awadov, emphasized the importance of good and friendly relations between the two countries and said:“Afghanistan and Turkmenistan are close neighbors and old friends; our relations must be strong and sincere in all areas, especially in the sports sector. Sports know no borders and can be a bridge of communication between nations”.

Referring to the achievements and activities of the country's sports administration, Wasiq called for joint competitions between Afghan and Turkmen athletes to to improve their skills and capacities.
