Iran Says U.S. Nuclear Talks Remain Open
(MENAFN) A top Iranian security official signaled on Tuesday that dialogue with the United States over nuclear negotiations remains open, despite ongoing challenges.
Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, outlined Tehran’s stance in a post on social media platform X, emphasizing the need for “rational” discussions. He warned that "by raising unrealizable issues, such as missile restrictions, they (the United States) set a path which negates any talks."
The two nations had planned the sixth round of indirect nuclear negotiations for June 15 in Oman. However, talks were abruptly halted after Israel launched significant airstrikes on June 13 targeting multiple Iranian sites, including nuclear and military facilities. This was followed by U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites on June 22.
Adding to the diplomatic strain, on August 28, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed Washington’s continued pursuit of direct negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program. His statement came after France, Britain, and Germany—the E3—activated the “snapback” mechanism to reimpose UN sanctions on Tehran.
