Putin states BRICS is main pillar of worldwide architecture
(MENAFN) President Vladimir Putin has emphasized that Russia and China are working closely to enhance the influence of the BRICS economic bloc in global affairs and to reform the international financial system, which he says has been used as a tool of discrimination and neocolonial control.
In an interview with China’s Xinhua News Agency ahead of his state visit to China, Putin praised cooperation between Moscow and Beijing across multiple international platforms, including the United Nations, the G20, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and especially BRICS. He described BRICS as “a key pillar of global architecture.”
Putin stated that both nations are united in strengthening BRICS to confront major global challenges, promote shared security interests, and oppose punitive sanctions that, in his view, obstruct the development of BRICS countries and the wider world.
He also stressed the need to reform institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. According to Putin, the goal is to build a new, equitable financial system that ensures fair access for all nations and better reflects the actual economic power of member states.
Putin argued that using financial tools as instruments of neocolonialism undermines global progress and contradicts the interests of the so-called “Global Majority.” Instead, he said, Russia and China are advocating for a more inclusive and just international order.
He reiterated that Moscow and Beijing share closely aligned views on fundamental global issues and are committed to creating a multipolar world focused on fair development for all.
Putin’s visit to China, from August 31 to September 3, will include the SCO summit in Tianjin and Victory Day celebrations in Beijing. During the trip, he will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, another founding member of BRICS.
