HC Sentences Former Police Officer To Life In 2003 Kupwara Attack Case

Srinagar- The High Court of J&K and Ladakh has held a former Station House Officer of police guilty for murder in conspiracy with Pakistani terrorist for a fidayeen attack on security forces at Kupwara in which two CRPF jawans were killed and six security forces personnel were injured in 2003.
A division bench of Justice Sanjeev Kumar and Justice Sanjay Parihar however upheld acquittal of another policeman (Munshi) for lack of evidence against them.
The court's judgment came on an appeal filed by the erstwhile state government against the acquittal by trail court in 2011 of the former SHO-Ghulam Rasool Wani of Anderhama Kupwara and policeman (Munshi) Abdul Ahad Rather of Takipora Lolab Kupwara for conspiracy along with a Pakistani fidayeen attack on 12 May 2003.
According to the prosecution, the Fidayeen attack took place, targeting police and security forces at the main Chowk Kupwara near SBI branch.
Two CRPF Jawans of 113 BN, namely Constable B Prashad and B Ramaiah were killed and six police and CRPF personnel were injured.
