Palestine Deplores Washington's Abstention From Granting Visas To Palestinian Officials

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RAMALLAH, Aug 29 (KUNA) -- The Palestinian Presidency on Friday deeply deplored a statement by the US State Department to refrain from issuing visas for the Palestinian delegation partaking in the September meetings of the UN General Assembly.
The presidency in a statement published by the Palestinian news agency (Wafa) said the decision contradicts the international law and "the headquarters agreement," considering that the State of Palestine enjoys the observer's status at the UN.
It called on the US Administration to revise the decision to abstain from providing visas to the Palestinian delegation that would travel to New York to attend the UNGA sessions.
It affirmed its adherence to the international law, the international legitimacy resolutions and all its commitments to peace.
Washington's step came ahead of next month's UNGA sessions during which several states would officially declare recognition of the State of Palestine. (end)
