Amman, Aug. 27 (Petra) -- The King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD) has announced the launch of the sixth cycle of its Parliamentary Fellowship project, part of the Maharat (Skills) Program.
The initiative aligns with His Majesty King Abdullah II's vision to empower young people politically through practical programs that familiarize them with the legislative and oversight roles of the House of Representatives.
The project aims to engage youth in political life by offering opportunities to serve as research assistants to members of parliament, conducting research and preparing data and studies to support legislative proposals and ongoing discussions.
The initiative seeks to raise awareness of the legislative and oversight roles of parliament while nurturing a generation of politically aware youth who can form the foundation of Jordan's future legislators.
This cycle introduces a new selection mechanism, designating 30% of participants from political party members, with plans to gradually increase the percentage to 65% in upcoming cycles.
The change is intended to build participants' skills, enabling them to engage effectively in party activities, support their parties' outreach efforts, and develop community-focused programs, while also enhancing their expertise in political modernization.
The fellowship targets Jordanian youth aged 20 to 35, with priority given to graduates in public affairs-related fields such as political science, international relations, law, economics, accounting, and financial and banking sciences.
The program consists of 18 days of theoretical training over two months, followed by four months of practical training within Parliament and various official and community institutions.
Since its inception in 2019, the project has provided theoretical training to 364 young men and women, with 342 participants completing practical training within the House of Representatives.
