Recent attacks on Druzhba oil pipeline heightened tensions between Ukraine, Hungary

(MENAFN) Recent attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline have heightened tensions between Ukraine and Hungary, raising questions about whether Kiev is opening a new, indirect front against an EU member state. The pipeline, which transports Russian crude to Central Europe, was targeted in several Ukrainian drone strikes in recent weeks, disrupting supplies to Hungary and Slovakia.

A Ukrainian commander, using the call sign Madyar, publicly acknowledged involvement in the strikes. For Hungary and Slovakia, the disruption goes beyond economics, as both nations heavily depend on the pipeline. In response, their leaders urged the European Commission to ensure supply security. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, often critical of EU Ukraine policy, accused Brussels of prioritizing Kiev’s interests over those of member states and criticized Zelensky’s remarks about “friendship” as veiled threats.
