The Peshawar High Court has barred the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from proceeding with the disqualification case against PTI leader Zartaj Gul.

The bench, comprising Justice Waqar Ahmed and Justice Ijaz Khan, heard Gul's petition challenging her disqualification. The court restrained the ECP from taking further action on its August 5 notification and issued notices to the ECP and other respondents, directing them to submit their replies within 14 days.

Gul's counsel argued that the Anti-Terrorism Court in Faisalabad had sentenced his client to 10 years in prison, following which the ECP disqualified her along with other members through the August 5 notification.

Justice Waqar Ahmed questioned the counsel on why he did not approach the Lahore High Court, to which the lawyer responded that there were reasons for not doing so, adding that similar petitions filed by Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz, who were disqualified in the same case, are already pending before the Peshawar High Court.

Justice Waqar Ahmed remarked that the case would be heard along with the other petitions, and the court would also consider arguments on jurisdiction in the next hearing. The court adjourned the proceedings after seeking replies from the respondents.
