Kuwait Justice Min. Lauds New Lawyers' Law
"The new law will provide the necessary guarantees for better performance of the profession," Justice Al-Sumait said during a meeting with Kuwait Bar Association on Sunday.
One of the most significant provisions of the law is that it bans holding in 24-hour custody any lawyer in connection to courtroom offences. Instead, it entitles court judge to require, in an official note, referring the concerned lawyer to an inquiry panel for interrogation, the minister explained.
The law also regulates matters related to contracts and fees of lawyers and sets a clear-cut legal framework in collaboration with the Association to ensure the best possible solutions.
"Together with the judiciary law, the layers law will bring about a quantum leap in the legal profession," he said, noting that issues relating to appeals at court of cassation at still subject to debate with the Association. (end) nsh
