Kuwait Delivers First Batch of Fuel to Lebanon
(MENAFN) A Kuwaiti oil tanker reached Lebanon's territorial waters on Saturday, marking the first delivery under a critical fuel supply agreement aimed at alleviating Lebanon’s ongoing electricity shortages, the office of the Lebanese Energy Minister confirmed.
As outlined in the agreement, Kuwait is set to deliver a total of 132,000 metric tons of gas oil to Lebanon’s state-owned Electricité du Liban (EDL). Of this amount, 66,000 tons are being offered as a donation.
Energy Minister Joe Saddi underscored that the agreement would not increase Lebanon’s public debt, as the payment for the purchased fuel will be financed through EDL’s own revenue. He also recognized Kuwait’s ongoing support for Lebanon, highlighting its consistent assistance during national crises.
