U.S. House Poised to Release Epstein DOJ Records
(MENAFN) A key committee in the U.S. House of Representatives is preparing to release Justice Department records linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a move that could shed light on long-standing questions surrounding the case, a spokesperson confirmed Tuesday.
The House Oversight Committee intends to publish the records “after thorough review to ensure all victims' identification and child sexual abuse material are redacted,” a committee spokesperson said in a statement to media.
The panel also plans to coordinate with the Justice Department “to ensure any documents released do not negatively impact ongoing criminal cases and investigations,” the spokesperson added.
The committee expects to receive the documents later this week under an August subpoena targeting materials related to Epstein, the wealthy financier who died in federal custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
Once the documents are obtained and reviewed, the panel will release them to the public, the spokesperson said.
According to committee chair James Comer, the Trump administration is scheduled to begin handing over records related to Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell—also a convicted sex offender—on Friday.
The document transfer is part of a bipartisan investigation scrutinizing how Epstein's case was handled. The probe involves multiple high-profile figures, including former attorneys general, a former FBI director, and Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton—the former U.S. President and former Secretary of State, respectively.
Speaking to media, Comer said the Justice Department acknowledged the scope of the records will require time to process, redacting both victim identities and any child sexual abuse content.
Comer, a Republican, praised the administration’s cooperation: “the Trump administration’s commitment to transparency and efforts to provide the American people with information about this matter.”
