(MENAFN) Russian aerial assaults on the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia left at least nine people dead and 40 wounded, Ukrainian officials confirmed on Monday.
In Kharkiv, a Shahed drone slammed into a high-rise residential block in the city’s Industrial District, killing six people and injuring 20 more, according to Mayor Ihor Terekhov, who posted on Telegram.
Emergency responders confirmed that the fatalities in Kharkiv included a one-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy. According to the State Service for Emergencies, six children were among the injured. Rescue operations remain underway, with 140 personnel and 39 emergency vehicles engaged at the scene.
Meanwhile, in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, a separate Russian attack killed three people and left 20 others wounded, regional governor Ivan Fedorov reported via Telegram.
he noted that a significant number of the injured were admitted to hospitals with critical injuries. The strike inflicted damage on residential homes, a business facility, a bus stop, and multiple commercial properties. The assault followed a ballistic missile warning issued for the area.
Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched a total of 140 drones and four Iskander-M ballistic missiles overnight. Of those, 88 drones were intercepted. Remaining projectiles struck targets across 25 sites in six different regions.
