Air Canada Flight Attendants Extend Strike, Disrupting Hundreds Of Flights

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Air Canada flight attendants extended their strike, disrupting 700 daily flights and stranding 100,000 passengers, as the union demands fair pay and rejects mandatory arbitration.

Flight attendants at Air Canada have announced they will continue their strike and refuse to return to work, prolonging major disruptions to the airline's operations.

Reuters reported Sunday, August 17, that the strike forced Air Canada to cancel its planned resumption of flights, pushing the restart from Sunday to Monday evening.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees, which represents the attendants, said members would not back down and urged the airline to negotiate a“fair agreement.”

Union leaders also stressed that attendants deserve proper compensation for ground duties, calling the current conditions unjust and unsustainable.

The Canadian government previously asked the Industrial Relations Board to impose mandatory arbitration in order to end the strike involving more than 10,000 attendants. The union has rejected this request, calling it illegal.

The strike has already suspended about 700 daily flights, leaving more than 100,000 passengers stranded or facing major travel delays.

Air Canada said the expired collective agreement will remain in effect until a new deal is reached, confirming that attendants plan to remain on strike until then.
