Hungary Condemns Ukraine for Attacking Oil Pipeline
(MENAFN) Hungary has strongly criticized Ukraine following a drone assault on the Druzhba oil pipeline, a major conduit delivering crude oil from Russia to various European Union countries.
Hungarian officials have expressed concern that the recent attack jeopardizes the nation’s energy stability.
The Druzhba pipeline is among the globe’s most extensive crude transport systems, spanning around 4,000 kilometers and channeling oil from Russia and Kazakhstan to refineries in nations such as Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic.
On Wednesday, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto shared a post on X stating that “overnight, Ukraine launched a drone strike on a key distribution station of the Druzhba oil pipeline in Russia’s Bryansk Region.”
According to coverage by media outlets, several Ukrainian drones targeted Bryansk Region on Tuesday night, leading to blazes at multiple facilities.
One of the primary targets was the Unecha station, a critical node in the Druzhba pipeline that links Russia to the EU.
The Ukrainian General Staff acknowledged the operation against the pumping station via a Facebook update.
At the time of reporting, Russian officials have not issued any formal response to the reported strike.
Szijjarto denounced the incident as “outrageous,” emphasizing that Hungary’s energy security is deeply intertwined with uninterrupted oil flows through this particular infrastructure.
He pointed out that Hungary plays a crucial role as Ukraine’s “number one electricity supplier,”
warning that without Hungarian assistance, Ukraine’s energy situation would be “highly unstable.”
The minister urged Ukrainian authorities to cease actions that compromise Hungarian energy security, reiterating that these attacks are part of “a war we Hungarians have nothing to do with.”
Ukraine has consistently aimed at Russian energy assets throughout the ongoing conflict, with the Druzhba pipeline having been previously targeted.
In March, the Ukrainian General Staff admitted to conducting a similar strike on this same oil transportation network.
