Namibia Condemns Israel’s Plan to Occupy Gaza
(MENAFN) Namibia voiced serious alarm on Wednesday regarding Israel’s intention to seize control of Gaza City. The southern African nation warned that such a move would significantly deteriorate the already critical humanitarian circumstances in the area.
According to a statement from the Ministry of International Relations and Trade, “This decision stands to significantly worsen an already dire humanitarian crisis marked by hunger, deprivation and the risk of forced starvation.”
Namibia emphasized the gravity of the situation, pointing to the potential for further suffering among civilians.
The ministry also welcomed the “condemnation of this plan by compassionate members of the international community,” highlighting the importance of global solidarity and empathy in times of conflict.
Namibia appealed to United Nations member states to uphold their international responsibilities and intervene before a large-scale humanitarian catastrophe unfolds.
The statement emphasized the urgency of proactive measures in preventing further escalation.
“Namibia continues to advocate for the peaceful resolution of international disputes and remains firmly committed to supporting initiatives that promote and protect the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people,” the ministry added, reaffirming the country’s dedication to peace and human rights.
The announcement came in the wake of a decision by Israel’s Security Cabinet to endorse Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s strategy to completely occupy Gaza City.
The move has triggered widespread criticism from foreign governments and rights organizations.
Since October 2023, Israel has been under increasing condemnation for its ongoing military campaign in Gaza, which has resulted in the deaths of more than 61,700 individuals, according to human rights bodies and various reports.
