Evening schools in China are filled with passionate adults
(MENAFN) According to reports, evening classrooms across China are filling with adults eager to explore creative and intellectual pursuits, from traditional arts to cutting-edge technology.
For 52-year-old Yang Li, joining a Chinese painting course transformed her evenings. A white-collar employee in Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, Yang began attending a local night school in May, replacing her routine household chores with hours of artistic practice. Since then, she has started wearing brighter clothing and arranging her meals so beautifully that her son compared them to a painter’s palette.
"It unlocks a second life for me," she said. "It has taught me patience. Now I'm willing to pause for a falling leaf and take time to admire a flower from every angle."
Night schools are now offering an increasingly diverse range of classes, including video editing, learning musical instruments, artificial intelligence, and more. Many Chinese adults are seizing the opportunity to return to the classroom after work, pursuing new passions and finding personal growth through lifelong learning.
An e-commerce platform in China reported that online discussions about night classes have jumped by more than 78 percent since early 2025, with comment sections overflowing with recommendations, learning strategies, and personal experiences shared by hobby-focused students.
