Media reports US grand jury probing Russiagate hoax

(MENAFN) U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has reportedly convened a grand jury to investigate the origins of the "Russiagate" controversy, following the release of declassified documents suggesting high-level officials may have manipulated intelligence to falsely suggest that Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign colluded with Russia.

According to multiple media sources, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has referred the evidence to a grand jury to assess whether criminal charges are warranted. The DOJ has not issued an official statement on the matter.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard recently declassified several documents, claiming they reveal efforts by senior officials in the Obama administration to undermine Trump before he assumed office. The documents reportedly implicate former FBI Director James Comey, former CIA Director John Brennan, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper in manipulating intelligence to present Trump as favored by the Kremlin.

Russia has consistently denied any involvement in the 2016 U.S. election, dismissing the allegations as political maneuvering within Washington. Although Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation explored these claims, his 2019 report did not find sufficient evidence to prove a conspiracy between Trump and Russian officials.
