Celebrate Argentina, Chile At The Years Of Culture Family Weekend

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Years of Culture, in collaboration with the Embassy of Argentina in Qatar and the Trade Commission of Chile - ProChile, announced its upcoming Summer Family Weekend, a public celebration from August 14 to 16, in honour of this year's country partners.
Hosted at the centrally located the Teen Hub (the green-roofed building adjacent to the Fire Station), the free event invites families to take part in a family-friendly cultural experience packed with hands-on workshops, immersive activities, film screenings and more between 4pm and 10pm.
Designed for children aged 4-15, the weekend will also offer educational elements built around exploration, creativity and cultural exchange. Admission is free but with online registration to [email protected] , in addition to complimentary parking.
A weekend of discovery and fun awaits with an array of creative workshops, adventures, cinema, and immersive cultural experiences designed to ignite curiosity and foster cross-cultural understanding.
Participant will have the chance to explore artistry with the creation of Moai Clay Sculptures, shaping figures inspired by Chile's iconic Easter Island. Then, discover the Fabric Traditions of Argentina, where participants will learn ancient weaving techniques and natural dyes made from ingredients like turmeric and beetroot.
Children will have the opportunity to create their own fabric tote bags using traditional patterns, guided by Gabriela Salvino, a long-time early childhood educator from Argentina.
In a session titled Art & Nature from Chile, Chilean educator Lisbeth Pino Westermayer will lead daily art sessions exploring Chile's diverse flora and fauna. Through a bilingual, hands-on approach, attendees will craft birds, flowers, and forest animals.
For a taste of local heritage, Dadu, Children's Museum of Qatar, will present Explore Qatari Culture with Dadu on August 15 and 16, offering workshops to Make Your Own Batoullah and Make Your Own Falcon Hood.
The Night Skies session will explore celestial stories from around the globe, giving visitors to take part in an activity, titled Erupting Candy Volcano, a fizzy science activity inspired by South America's volcanic landscapes.
In the Cinema Zone, a partnership with the Doha Film Institute will showcase a selection of Made in Qatar family-friendly films, designed to nurture curiosity and promote cross-cultural understanding.
Visitors can also contribute to a Collaborative Mural, a giant collective artwork that will grow throughout the weekend, becoming a colourful memory created by every participating child. They can also learn the joyful Argentinian folk dance, the Chacarera, led by María Paula Reyes Ortiz and María Cristina Ortiz Murcia, a mother-daughter duo from Qatar's Latin American folkloric ballet and long-time educators in Doha.
Chilean educator and community leader Daniela Bedmar from the Language Centre of Hamad Bin Khalifa University will teach the Cueca, Chile's national dance, blending rhythm, movement, and tradition.
Participants can try their hand at basic Spanish through playful“Say it in Spanish” and“Test Your Spanish” sessions, great for beginners of all ages, with support from Marcela Lozano at the Language Center of Hamad Bin Khalifa University.
A Taste of Latin America in the Food & Beverage Zone features a variety of traditional snacks and refreshing drinks available for purchase, including flavours like empanadas and alfajores.
Aspiring young professionals can explore Future Careers: Veterinary Science & Equine Care. Led by Benjamin Uberti, Senior clinician at the Equine Veterinary Medical Center, this 45-minute workshop will introduce youth to veterinary science, highlighting the cultural and scientific importance of equine care in Qatar, Argentina, and Chile.
