Ukrainian Drone Attacks Target Russian Jets, Fuel Depot
(MENAFN) Ukrainian forces carried out targeted drone attacks on key Russian military and fuel infrastructure, officials in Kyiv confirmed Monday, signaling a continued escalation in long-range strike capabilities.
In a statement, the Security Service of Ukraine announced that a drone operation on the Saky military airfield in Russian-occupied Crimea destroyed a Su-30SM fighter jet, damaged a second one, and struck three Su-24 aircraft. The same strike also targeted an aviation weapons storage facility.
Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces launched a separate strike on Sunday against a fuel depot at Sochi airport, igniting a fire. The facility also housed a Russian military aviation unit, according to the statement.
On the defensive front, Ukraine faced intense Russian aerial assaults over the previous 24 hours. The Ukrainian Air Force stated that Russia launched 162 drones and a Kinzhal hypersonic missile in overnight attacks early Monday. Air defense systems intercepted 161 of the drones.
