Magnitude 6.2 Earthquake Strikes South Of Fiji Islands

The National Seismic Network stations of the National Centre of Meteorology on Tuesday (July 29) recorded a 6.2-magnitude earthquake that jolted the south of Fiji Islands at 10.53pam UAE local time.

The GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, however, recorded the quake at a magnitude of 6.3.

The epicentre of the quake had a depth of 551.4 km.

While there are no active volcanoes in Fiji Islands, it is prone to earthquakes because it is located within the 'Ring of Fire', an area known for frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
