Black Sabbath's legendary 'Prince of Darkness' dies at age 76

(MENAFN) Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath and a towering figure in the world of heavy metal, has passed away at the age of 76, his family confirmed on Tuesday.

In a heartfelt statement, the Osbourne family said, “With profound sorrow, we announce that our beloved Ozzy passed away this morning, surrounded by his family and love. We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult time.”

Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948, in Aston, Birmingham, Ozzy came from modest beginnings. After leaving school at 15, he held various jobs, including factory work, before forming early bands with his school friend Geezer Butler, who would later become Black Sabbath’s bassist.

Osbourne rose to prominence in the early 1970s as the lead singer of Black Sabbath, a band that revolutionized heavy metal with its dark and powerful sound. His distinctive voice and theatrical presence earned him the nickname “Prince of Darkness,” a title that stayed with him throughout his career, which spanned more than 50 years.

Earlier this month, on July 5, Osbourne reunited with Black Sabbath for a final concert at Villa Park in his hometown. It was his first performance with the band in two decades and now stands as his farewell to the stage.
