Türkiye Extends Military Support to Syria
(MENAFN) The Syrian regime has formally sought assistance from Türkiye to enhance its military capabilities and confront terrorist factions, particularly ISIS (Daesh), according to officials from the Turkish National Defense Ministry on Wednesday.
"In line with this request, we continue to work to provide training, consultancy, and technical support to increase Syria's defense capacity,” ministry sources stated.
They emphasized that "Türkiye's primary goal is to support Syria's political unity and territorial integrity and to lead efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region."
In response to inquiries about recent unrest in Syria’s Suwayda province and the intensification of Israeli attacks on Damascus, the sources noted that Israel’s stepped-up operations have fueled rising tensions between the Druze population in Suwayda and the central Syrian government.
The sources also reiterated Türkiye’s firm commitment to upholding Syria’s territorial sovereignty, promoting regional stability, and confronting extremist organizations.
On July 13, violent clashes erupted between Bedouin Arab tribes and armed Druze factions in Suwayda.
The conflict rapidly escalated, followed by Israeli air raids targeting Syrian military facilities and infrastructure, including sites in Damascus.
Although Israel claimed the airstrikes were conducted under the guise of “protection of Druze communities,” numerous Druze leaders inside Syria have publicly dismissed foreign intervention and voiced their continued support for a united Syrian nation. A truce was declared on Saturday.
