Türkiye's Central Government Debt Reaches USD286.4 Billion


(MENAFN) At the close of June, Turkey’s central government’s total debt stock reached 11.4 trillion Turkish liras ($286.4 billion), according to official statistics released on Monday.

This data was provided by the Treasury and Finance Ministry.

The figures reveal a significant increase of 44.7% compared to the debt level recorded at the end of June the previous year.

The gross debt stock encompasses liabilities held by public sector bodies, the Central Bank, private sector companies, and households.

Nearly 44.5% of the debt is denominated in Turkey’s own currency, while the remainder is held in foreign currencies.

Of the total debt, 6.58 trillion Turkish liras ($165.2 billion) are domestic liabilities, with 4.89 trillion liras ($122.8 billion) accounted for as external debt.

Additionally, the US dollar to Turkish lira exchange rate stood at approximately 39.81 at the end of June, influencing the foreign currency portion of the debt.
