Global Community Calls For Immediate End To Israel's Gaza War
KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Kingdom, along with 24 other countries, has called for an immediate end to the Israel's ongoing war in Gaza, highlighting the extreme suffering of civilians.
This statement follows over 21 months of fighting, which has caused catastrophic humanitarian conditions for Gaza's more than two million residents, Al Jazeera reported.
The UK, France, Australia, Canada, and 21 other nations, in addition to the European Union, jointly declared that the conflict“must end now.” They condemned the inhumane killings of civilians, including children, as they struggle to access basic necessities like food and water.
“The suffering of civilians in Gaza has reached new depths,” the statement said, urging a negotiated ceasefire, the release of captives held by Palestinian fighters, and the unrestricted flow of essential humanitarian aid.
Since May, when Israel partially lifted its two-month blockade, at least 875 people in Gaza have been killed while trying to secure food, according to the UN and Gaza's Health Ministry.
The international community criticized Israel's aid delivery model as dangerous, destabilizing, and depriving Gaza's population of their human dignity.“Israel must comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law,” the statement emphasized.
The joint statement also called for an immediate ceasefire, expressing willingness to take further steps to support a peaceful resolution. However, despite ongoing ceasefire discussions between Israel and Hamas, a breakthrough remains elusive, and the possibility of a lasting truce is uncertain.
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy thanked the United States, Qatar, and Egypt for their diplomatic efforts in seeking an end to the conflict.“There is no military solution,” Lammy stated in Parliament.“The next ceasefire must be the last ceasefire.”
According to Gaza's Health Ministry, Israel's military offensive has claimed the lives of more than 59,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children.
