25Th Muharram Observed With Majalis, Processions Across Kashmir

    Aabedin also known as Imam Sajjad, the only male survivor from the household of Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) in the Karbala carnage was observed on Monday across Kashmir with Majalis and processions.

    Thousands of mourners joined day-long Majalis f9ollowed by processions in Srinagar and other districts to pay tributes to the martyred Imam. Also known as Syed al Sajideen (AS) Imam was the son of Imam Hussain (AS) and was 22 and severely ill during the battle of Karbala. He was later taken prisoner and eventually martyred in Madina on 25th of Muharram 95AH at the age 54 by Caliph Al Waleed bin Marwan.

    Syed al Sajideen (AS), despite being extremely unwell, followed the call of his father Imam Hussain (A.S.) when no one was left for his assistance on the day of Ashura. But head of the ravaged caravan lady Zainab (SA) stopped him because he was the only male member of the family of the Prophet (pbuh) left alive.

    The largest public gathering on the occasion was held at Shalimar in the Srinagar city outskirts where thousands of black-clad mourners marched beating their chests and reciting soul-stirring elegies for the martyrs of Karbala.

    The procession commenced from Chandpora and passed through Arabal and later culminated at Imambargah Gulshan Ali, Shalimar late in the night. Aga Syed Mujtaba Musavi delivered a sermon at the Majlis held at Bagh-e-Zainab.

    An impressive Majlis was held at Mirgund in Pattan despite restrictions. Here Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari delivered a lecture on the life and martyrdom of 4th Shia Imam.

    No Zuljinah or Alam Sharif procession was allowed in Mirgund as authorities imposed restrictions fearing attacks by a rival Shia group on mourners there. Traditionally Zuljinah procession would be taken out from Mirchmar to Imambargah Mirgund. Majlis was held under heavy security there.

    Maulana Masroor denounced curbs on Zuljinah procession questioning“how a mourning procession in a small village posed threat to anyone?”

    In nearby Chenabal Molvi Imran Reza Ansari led a procession which culminated in Kakarpora village on the national highway. He also delivered a sermon at Chenabal where several thousand had gathered to hear him.

    A procession led by Aga Syed Muhammad Hadi was taken out from Doonipora to Mir Shamsudin Araki shrine in Zadibal during the evening in which hundreds of mourners participated.
