Winners Of Katara Short Story Competition Announced
DOHA: The Cultural Village Foundation – Katara has announced the winners of the 2025 Katara Short Story Competition, which saw widespread participation from across the Arab world and beyond.
First prize was awarded to Yemeni writer Ahmed Al-Saadi for his story“Tears of Salt”, while the second prize went to Iraqi author Ali Taha Hijara for“Silence”. Libyan writer Moataz bin Hameed secured third place with his story“The Glow of the Pearl”. This year's edition, held during the holy month of Ramadan, centered around the theme of“Brotherhood”, continuing Katara's tradition of organizing an annual short story competition during the month of spiritual reflection and creativity. The first-place winner will receive a cash prize of 15,000 Qatari riyals, while the second and third-place winners will receive 12,000 and 10,000 riyals respectively.
The 2025 competition attracted nearly 1,500 entries from 32 countries, including 19 Arab nations and 13 non-Arab countries, highlighting its growing regional and international appeal. The contest is open to writers of all ages and genders, with participants allowed to submit only one story each. The winning stories will be published by Katara Publishing House, further supporting and promoting emerging literary talent.
