Macron Declares Major Surge in Defense Funding


(MENAFN) French President Emmanuel Macron declared on Sunday a substantial increase of 6.5 billion euros (equivalent to 7.6 billion U.S. dollars) in defense funding to be distributed over the coming two years. This move aims to elevate France’s annual military budget to 64 billion euros by 2027.

During a speech addressed to the country’s armed forces, Macron detailed France’s evolving military strategy and vision, emphasizing that defense investment "is and will continue to be a source of wealth for our gross domestic product, our economy, and our regions."

Additionally, the president announced intentions to investigate the launch of a new national service program. (1 euro = 1.17 U.S. dollar)
