Paddlesplash Brings SUP Races, Yoga, And Family Fun To Lake Natoma With Norcal SUP Groms
Rancho Cordova, CA - Sacramento's summer just got splashier! From July 25–27, the shimmering waters of Lake Natoma will play host to PaddleSplash, Northern California's ultimate stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) festival, presented by local nonprofit NorCal SUP Groms.
Far more than just a race weekend, PaddleSplash has grown into a full-fledged celebration of fitness, family fun, and community spirit. The event welcomes paddlers of all ages and abilities, from seasoned racers chasing personal records to beginners stepping on a board for the very first time.
Action on the Water
Highlights of the three-day festival include competitive 2-mile, 5-mile, and 8-mile SUP races, a high-energy 200-meter sprint, and fun-filled relays. One unique fan favorite is the Poker Paddle, where paddlers collect cards at checkpoints, hoping for the best poker hand instead of the fastest time. It's a playful twist that has become a beloved PaddleSplash tradition.
Kids get their own spotlight with the Grom Races, offering safe, exciting competition tailored for young paddlers. There's also the chance for little ones to try paddleboarding under careful guidance, sparking a love for the sport early on.
Wellness, Learning, and Community
Beyond racing, PaddleSplash offers SUP yoga sessions, water safety clinics, and injury prevention workshops led by local experts. Participants can test new gear at vendor booths, meet fellow enthusiasts, or simply lounge on the beach and enjoy the view.
A key part of the festival is its commitment to the environment. Each year, PaddleSplash concludes with a community beach clean-up, ensuring Lake Natoma remains as pristine as ever for future paddlers.
Supporting a Worthy Cause
Proceeds from PaddleSplash support NorCal SUP Groms, a Granite Bay-based nonprofit dedicated to promoting youth paddle sports, water safety, and building confidence in young people, including foster and at-risk youth. The organization runs a vibrant youth paddleboarding program, with weekday practices, summer camps, and community events designed to get kids active, connected, and confident on the water.
“PaddleSplash is about so much more than racing,” said Shelly Alves, Director of NorCal SUP Groms.“It's a place where people come together to have fun, learn new skills, and support kids who might otherwise never get the chance to experience the magic of being on the water.”
Whether you're aiming for a medal, mastering your yoga balance, or just looking for a sunny weekend on the lake, PaddleSplash offers an unforgettable summer adventure.
Registration for all events-including races, clinics, and SUP yoga-is now open. Don't miss your chance to paddle, play, and support a great cause at this unique Sacramento-area festival.
