New York: The United Nations announced the entry of a fuel shipment into Gaza Strip - the first of its kind in over four months - amid a worsening humanitarian crisis in the besieged territory.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a statement on Thursday that a UN team delivered approximately 75,000 liters of fuel to Gaza on Wednesday, marking the first such delivery in 130 days.

Dujarric stated that the amount delivered yesterday is not enough to meet even one day's energy needs, fuel supplies are running out, and services will cease if significantly larger quantities are not brought in immediately.

Since March 2, Israeli occupation authorities barred the entry of all forms of aid into Gaza, including fuel, an action the UN condemned as a violation of international humanitarian law. The blockade has deepened the suffering of Gaza's civilian population amid Israel's ongoing military assault, which began on October 7, 2023.
