Singapore starts initiative to enhance food security
(MENAFN) Singapore has unveiled a new initiative aimed at enhancing security in its food and beverage sector with the launch of the Restaurant Industry Safety and Security Watch Group.
The program brings together law enforcement agencies and members of the Restaurant Association of Singapore to improve readiness and collaboration against potential crimes and threats targeting restaurants and public dining spaces.
Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs Sim Ann highlighted the importance of the initiative during a speech on Tuesday, pointing out that restaurants in other countries have been targets in attacks on crowded areas. “As a major food hub and tourist destination, Singapore's vibrant restaurant scene must be vigilant to safety and security threats,” she said.
Sim also called on restaurant owners and staff to take an active role in preventing crime by sharing information about scams and criminal activity with both employees and patrons. She noted that in 2024, Singapore recorded over 51,000 scam cases, with the food and beverage industry among the sectors affected.
