Imprisoned PKK Leader Urges Group to Disarm
(MENAFN) Abdullah Ocalan, the incarcerated ringleader of the PKK, reiterated on Wednesday his appeal for the terrorist organization to relinquish its weapons.
Currently serving a life term in a prison located on Imrali Island near Istanbul, Ocalan reaffirmed his previous call made on February 27, urging the group to disarm and disband itself.
Highlighting the significance of the present moment, Ocalan described the ongoing phase as valuable and historic. He attributed these advancements to dialogues conducted on Imrali, emphasizing that such conversations took place voluntarily and in good faith.
Ocalan pointed out that the progress made so far requires tangible actions moving forward.
He stressed that a voluntary disarmament, coupled with the creation of a comprehensive parliamentary commission, is crucial to successfully advancing the entire process.
Furthermore, he asserted that the PKK has renounced its aim of forming a nation-state and declared its cessation as an entity.
Ocalan believes this landmark moment is likely to progress further in the future.
Disarmament, he noted, must be implemented transparently—one that is meaningful to both the legislative body and the public, addresses prevailing skepticism, and upholds the obligations agreed upon.
“Establishing a disarmament mechanism will move the process forward,” Ocalan concluded, underscoring the importance of a structured approach to ensure lasting progress.
