Amman, July 7 (Petra) – Jordan experienced significantly higher-than-average temperatures during June 2025 due to the influence of several contrasting weather systems, making it the fourth hottest June in the past 30 years and the third hottest in the last decade, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).
In a statement on Monday, JMD Director Raed Al Khattab said the kingdom was affected by a ridge of high pressure during three key periods: June 1–6, 15–17, and 20–26. Meanwhile, a weak surface thermal low impacted the country from June 7–14, 18–19, and 27–30.
Al Khattab noted that the average temperature at Amman Civil Airport reached 26.7 C, which is 1.7 C above the monthly average, placing this June among the hottest on record alongside June 2019.
The average high temperature for the month was 32.9 C, also 1.7 C above normal, while the average low was 20.5 C, exceeding the norm by 1.8 C.
The highest recorded temperature at Amman Civil Airport was 37.2 C on June 28, while the lowest was 14.8 C on June 3.
Across the kingdom, the highest temperature was recorded in Ghor Al-Safi (Southern Jordan Valley) on June 29, peaking at 44.5 C. The lowest temperature was registered at Shoubak weather station in Ma'an Governorate, which dropped to 5.6 C on June 5.
The JMD report highlights the growing variability in weather patterns and reinforces concerns about rising regional temperatures amid global climate trends.
