China Urges EU Not to Equate It with US
(MENAFN) In a recent diplomatic exchange, China’s foreign minister emphasized that Beijing should not be compared with Washington, stressing that the European Union "won’t face any challenge" from China.
His comments aimed to provide reassurance as the EU navigates increased American tariffs and ongoing tensions linked to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Wang Yi delivered his remarks on Wednesday during the latest session of the China-EU high-level strategic dialogue held in Brussels.
He met with the EU’s foreign affairs chief, Kaja Kallas. According to an official release from Beijing, the talks highlighted efforts to maintain stability and strengthen cooperation.
Speaking to Kallas, Wang stated, “On issues of peace and security, China has the best track record among major countries in today's world.”
He further asserted, “China is not the United States, and its path should not be mirrored against America's historical trajectory,” underlining Beijing’s unique approach to international relations.
While recognizing that China and the EU differ in historical experiences, cultural backgrounds, and core principles, Wang maintained that these distinctions “should not warrant rivalry, nor their disagreements necessitate confrontation.”
He reassured Kallas that, despite Europe’s current difficulties, “they have never come – and will never come – from China, whether in the past, present or future.”
This high-level meeting occurred at a moment when the European Union is experiencing mounting pressure from the US regarding tariffs and military expenditure.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration has revived diplomatic engagement with Russia amidst the ongoing war in Ukraine.
