Thailand’s King Appoints New Cabinet

(MENAFN) Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn formally appointed a new cabinet on Thursday, following a royal endorsement of the ministerial lineup earlier this week.

Deputy Prime Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit, who is currently serving as acting prime minister, led 14 newly appointed and reassigned ministers in taking their oath of allegiance before the king—a crucial formality before they can officially assume their roles.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, suspended from her duties by a constitutional court pending an ethics probe, attended the event after being appointed culture minister. A group of 36 senators had petitioned the court last month, seeking her dismissal over allegations of serious ethical misconduct, connected to a leaked phone conversation regarding border disputes with Cambodia.

Later in the day, Suriya will convene a special cabinet meeting at the Government House to assign tasks and duties to the deputy prime ministers and ministers, according to government sources.
