Israel Engages in Secret Talks with Russia
(MENAFN) Israel has reportedly conducted covert discussions with Russia regarding Iran and Syria during a pause in hostilities agreed upon with Tehran, according to a report released Wednesday.
A state broadcaster indicated that Tel Aviv has preserved top-level communications with Moscow in pursuit of a diplomatic resolution related to both Iranian and Syrian affairs.
Following Moscow’s proposal to serve as a mediator between Israel and Iran, Israeli leadership is said to have initiated dialogue with the Russian government approximately a week after the truce was declared.
While the report did not disclose particular information about the nature of the conversations, it highlighted ongoing diplomatic efforts behind closed doors.
Simultaneously, Israel is believed to be pursuing a more comprehensive arrangement with the United States concerning Iran.
As per the report, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to bring up the matter during his upcoming meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, scheduled to take place in Washington next week.
Sources suggest that Israel's goal is to establish a strategic outline on Iran that mirrors a previous accord made with Lebanon.
The Israeli military conducted airstrikes on Iranian targets on June 13, which came to a stop following the announcement of a truce by Trump on June 24.
Since the implementation of the ceasefire with Iran, Israeli leaders have been exploring the expansion of "normalization agreements," commonly known as the Abraham Accords.
It has also been suggested that diplomatic engagement with Syria is now part of this broader initiative.
